Re: LET’S SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are very worried about the intended cuts or changes to Social Security as they are unjust, unnecessary, and irresponsible. The shocking reality is that the impetus to gut the Social Security system is being fueled by the false claim that Social Security is driving our huge national deficit.
Nothing could be further from the truth: Social Security is not funded by general taxes, but rather by its own funded revenue stream that you and I pay for out of every check. Social Security does not borrow to finance itself, and unlike the rest of the system, there is no deficit financing of Social Security. In fact, the administrative costs for Social Security are a paltry .09% and Social Security returns 99 cents of every dollar it collects to Social Security recipients. There is no business or government program, and certainly no Wall Street or other retirement plan which can come close to such a claim.
If the Administration and Congress is successful, what will we do with our elders? Both elderly men and women already have difficulty paying for food, rent and medicine on their meager Social Security checks, and most elderly women can't do that; they live below the poverty line and starve on a daily basis. Simply, Social Security was paid for by our seniors and it is paid to them monthly out of money placed in trust for them. One day, everyone who is currently paying into the system should be able to rely on receipt of these same funds. At the end of 2010, the Social Security Trust Fund had a balance of $2.6 trillion. With interest earned, Social Security Trust Funds will total 3.67 trillion by 2022. This is hardly a program with which to trifle.
Please help us save Social Security by signing and having all of your colleagues, family, friends, and clients sign the petitions we have enclosed for you. I know it is difficult, but please try and do this right away as this is an urgent matter.
This is how you can help even more: Ask everyone you know, and everyone who signs the petitions to make copies of the fact sheet, the instructions, and the petition sheet (or give them copies) and ask them to pass the whole package along to everyone they know. You can also download additional packages at our website at pcatucson.com, and signed petitions can be returned to us at the above address. Don't forget to also mail these items to your acquaintances and family throughout the United States. With a bit more commitment, you can also ask every business you visit from the grocery store to the Circle K to keep these items at their counter. We hope you will.
Finally, please ask everyone to make a call to their United States Senators and Representatives. For your convenience, we have also enclosed those phone numbers, so please give everyone a copy of that sheet as well.
If we can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to call us.
Thank you so much for caring!
